One of the best trails with beautiful landscapes is found on the ascent to Fuya Fuya Mountain, which is part of a volcanic complex known as Mojanda. It is just one more attraction of the Imbabura Geopark. Today, the Mojanda volcano is a large crater 5 km in diameter. In the center of this crater is the large lagoon, Karikucha (male lagoon) along with two smaller ones, Yanakucha (black lagoon) and Warmikucha (female lagoon). Fuya Fuya’s volcanic cone is 4,279 meters above sea level. Fuya Fuya has no remnants of native forest but the entire mountain is covered with moorland straw.
From Ibarra we will head to the lake complex of Mojanda and ascend to its twin peaks from where we can observe the huge lagoon and marvel at the entire landscape in front of us.
It is the perfect way to have quality family time and forget about the routine.
And of course, you will not miss the ideal complement on this trip as we can visit the Taxopamba waterfalls nearby.
